Wendy is a senior member of Barnett Waddingham’s Board Management Services (BMS) team and currently heads up the team’s technical research and support group.  

Wendy is responsible for market research, development of technical training, document templates, technical queries and internal risk processes for both Corporate Secretarial and Pensions & Executive Management Services in the BMS business area. Much of this work relies on close collaboration across business areas in order to avoid duplication of work effort and efficient pooling of knowledge to respond quickly to internal and external factors. 

Since joining in 2023, she has been co-leading BW’s General Code Steering Group. The team have taken a pragmatic and unique approach to the new code with the development of systems aimed at simplifying the entire process for Trustees.  

Having held various roles in pensions scheme management from administration to governance, Wendy’s focus was on ensuring that our solutions added value and streamlined efficiencies which led to the development of BW CORE, our ESOG/ORA and risk management platform. 

Significant experience

  • Testing, training and ensuring all requirements are embedded into business-as-usual activities.
  • Assessing operational risks.
  • Reviewing processes to identify high risk areas to prioritise the completion of written procedures.
  • In previous role, Wendy successfully led and implemented Automatic Enrolment; this included all payroll, HR, IT and communication processes alongside implementation of a new payroll system, and Real Time Information (RTI) processes.  
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce employer costs.
  • Running strategic reviews of DB & DC pensions and associated benefits.

Career

Wendy is an experienced pensions professional having worked in the industry for over 30 years in various roles; most recently as the UK Pensions & Benefits Manager for CCL Industries, an international manufacturing company (February 2010 to February 2023). 

Prior to this she worked for Reassure UK (Phoenix) for over 18 years in multiple roles which has given her a broad and varied transferable skillset.

Interests

Outside of work Wendy is a Company Secretary/Director for a local residents’ association, an advocate and supporter of her local hospice, a keen gardener and a lover of walks in the Lake District which is happily right on her doorstep. 

She is a fan of live music and supports open mic nights at her local pub where she is also a member of a quiz team. Her other love is drawing pet portraits, which serves as her mindfulness time while also raising hospice funds by requesting donations in lieu of payment.
