Sam advises trustees of defined benefit pension schemes on a range of investment issues such as strategy, manager selection and risk management.

He has experience of both investment and actuarial issues and works with Trustees to think about both sides in a consistent, integrated way.

Sam works with a wide range of scheme ranging from a few million to a few hundred million pounds.

  • Investment strategy review work
  • Design and implementation of LDI strategies
  • Advising on risk management trigger frameworks

Career

Sam graduated with a first class degree in Mathematics from Durham University and has a masters in Actuarial Sciences from Imperial Business School. He qualified as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in 2014.

Sam joined Barnett Waddingham as an Investment Consultant in 2016 having previous worked as an actuary in another pensions consultancy. He became a Principal at Barnett Waddingham in 2022. 

Interests

Outside of work, most of Sam’s free time is taken up by his young family. When time allows, he also enjoys cooking, photography and travelling.
