As Platform Engineering Team Lead, Matt is responsible for shaping Barnett Waddingham’s modern infrastructure and cloud strategy, leading the evolution of our DevOps, SRE, and Infrastructure capabilities into a unified platform engineering function.

His focus is on creating secure, automated, and scalable foundations that enable faster, safer delivery across our business platforms  while embedding best practice in observability, automation, and governance.

Significant experience:

  • 15+ years of experience delivering cloud and infrastructure solutions across financial services, public sector, and defence.
  • Led SRE transformation for BW, improving reliability and observability 
  • Designed and implemented enterprise-grade CI / CD pipelines and infrastructure automation frameworks using Terraform, Ansible, and GitHub Actions / CircleCI
  • Delivered multi-environment, cloud-native platforms in AWS and Azure, supporting microservices and hybrid workloads.
  • Recognised as Cloud Consultant of the Year (2025) by Ten10 / The Scale Factory.

Career

Matt joins Barnett Waddingham from Ten10 / The Scale Factory, where he served as Lead Platform Engineer and Practice Lead for Site Reliability Engineering, supporting hybrid cloud modernisation and automation across complex enterprise environments.

Before that, he held senior engineering roles at MindCandy Ltd and Cancer Research UK, delivering cloud-native platforms, CI/CD automation, and large-scale infrastructure modernisation.

Interests

Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and working on home technology projects.

He is passionate about emerging AI technologies and exploring how automation and intelligent systems can continue to transform platform engineering.

To keep active, Matt trains regularly in Krav Maga, which helps build focus, resilience, and discipline.
