Risk Transfer Partner

Chris has over 20 years' experience of advising on defined benefit (DB) pension issues including risk reduction exercises, scheme funding and insurance transactions.

He is a Partner in our specialist bulk annuity team where he has helped manage transactions with insurance companies for buy-ins and buyouts. His experience includes working with schemes under £5m in assets to around £0.5bn. He has particular experience in pioneering new solutions including smaller scheme solutions as well as supporting transactions with newer insurers.

Chris has over 10 years' experience as Scheme Actuary, where he has supported clients including up to around £0.3 bn in size. Chris has also built particular expertise around the Teachers' Pension Scheme where he supports many leading UK and Scottish based Independent Schools.

His personal approach combined with a proactive attitude has helped him build a strong reputation as a trusted consultant. He is often praised for his communication style and his ability to present complex matters in straightforward language.

Significant experience:

  • Assisting sponsors consider their strategic plans (short and long term) for their scheme and options such as de-risking, including carrying out feasibility assessments for a variety of liability management exercises and developing approaches to the market for securing benefits with an insurer.
  • Provision of Scheme Actuary services to several DB schemes up to £0.3bn.
  • Assessment of risks and options for employers who participate in NAMES. Chris has supported employers who participate in TPT Retirement Solutions (Growth Plan, CARE Scheme, ISPS, SHPS, SHAPS), Church Workers Pension Fund, Plumbing and Mechanical Services (UK) Industry Pension Plan and the Motor Industry Pension Plan.
  • Supported clients in discussions with senior company board members, other advisers and trustees in connection with pension matters, and communication with individual scheme members.

Chris has managed a number of large projects, including bulk annuity transactions, complex valuation negotiations and transfer value exercises.
