We have two summer internship programmes aimed at undergraduates entering their final year of their study. At the end of the programme you may be offered a role on one of our graduate programmes starting the following year.
Option 1: Working across our Employer Consulting, Investment, Actuarial and Public Sector (depending on location) consulting teams, you will be given real responsibility to contribute to client work, research and undertake projects. You will also receive training and a thorough induction at the start of the programme.
Option 2: Working in our Insurance and Longevity Consulting team, you will gain experience across our Life, General Insurance and Longevity teams. You have the opportunity to contribute to client work, undertake research and participate in training to give you a high level understanding of the insurance industry the projects we do.
On this internship programme you will get a real-life insight into the roles of an Actuary and Investment Consultant. There is a lot to gain by joining our programme including having exposure to our different business areas, working on several projects and experiencing numerous aspects of the work that our BW actuaries and investment consultants carry out. You will get involved with a variety of work including:
Data analysis and calculations to help develop your Excel best practice and knowledge
Learn about how a pension is valued, the time value of money and how we calculate members mortality
Producing reports that cover how investments have performed
Assisting with investment manager research
Assisting with investment strategy design work
Learning about liability management strategies to reduce risk
Learning about how actuaries support management decision analytics
On this summer internship programme you will spend time in our life, general insurance and longevity areas to make sure you have a good overview of the variety of services we offer to our clients. You will get involved with a variety of work including:
Learning about insurance, insurers’ processes and financial requirements
Learning about and assisting with a range of actuarial modelling
Carrying out data processing to investigate mortality experience and develop industry-wide tables
Learning about and being given hands-on training on how to programme in a range of software, including R and Excel, whilst testing and developing internal tools to make work more effective and efficient
For graduates joining our Trainee Consultant programme within our Actuarial Consulting, Public Sector Consulting and Insurance and Longevity Consulting team, we support the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) fellowship qualification.
For those joining our Investment Consulting team, a choice between the IFoA and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification is possible.
