Nicola is an actuary in the public sector team, advising clients who look after LGPS schemes on valuations and funding strategy as well as other employer related issues.

She also has a key role in the development and maintenance of our internal tools, helping to develop solutions to technical issues to ensure efficiency and optimal outcomes for clients.

Alongside this, Nicola sits as the public sector team's representative on Barnett Waddingham’s Pensions Technical Actuarial Committee, which considers important topical actuarial issues and ideas and produces firm-wide guidance.

Significant experience:

  • Advice on accounting disclosures for public sector employers and liaison with audit boards on methods and assumptions used
  • Development and maintenance of internal tools, ensuing incorporation of regulatory and other changes with ease and efficiency for clients
  • Funding and other advice to Local Authority Pension Funds
  • Advice on employer conversions, outsourcings and cessations, including calculating the contribution rate applicable and deficit attributable to the employer, given the specific risks to the fund.

Career

Nicola qualified as an actuary in 2017 and has experience working with both private and public sector funds. She was the 2017/18 president of the Glasgow Actuarial Students Society.

Interests

Outside of work, Nicola enjoys running, hillwalking, skiing and will never pass on a good holiday!
