Matt has extensive experience in investment strategy work as well as day-to-day investment consultancy for pension schemes. This includes liability driven investment and hedging strategies, working collaboratively with trustees and companies towards long-term objectives.

He is enthusiastic and engaging in his approach to communicating with clients. Matt enjoys the analytical side, as well as communicating with clients and helping them understand what are often complex issues. He has built up considerable knowledge working with pension schemes at various stages of maturity.

Matt works closely with Trustees of UK pension schemes with assets ranging from under £50m to over £1bn.

He also has experience in assisting non-pension scheme organisations in investing assets to meet their objectives as well as helping employers of schemes engage with Trustees on investment matters.

Significant experience:

  • providing defined benefit pension schemes with advice on strategic asset allocation and implementation
  • advising trustees on long-term investment planning, including de-risking options such as funding-based triggers
  • designing, monitoring and reviewing Liability Driven Investment strategies
  • manager selection, monitoring and review
  • designing asset strategies to target buy-in transactions

Other expertise:

Matt placed second in Actuarial Post’s ‘Stars of the Future’ in 2017. He is a member of an Institute and Faculty of Actuaries working party, looking at identifying and defining investment strategies for pensions and insurance and how these might evolve in the future. He is also actively involved in improving engagement within the team.
