Fiona advises trustees and sponsors of UK defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) pension schemes on a wide range of actuarial issues.  
She is the primary contact and support actuary for a number of schemes, including schemes in the not-for-profit sector and schemes which remain open to accrual. She is also the team leader of the Birmingham actuarial team. 
 
Fiona’s areas of expertise include scheme funding, PPF levy mitigation and accounting disclosures.
 
Her clients are comprised of schemes of various sizes, ranging from under £10 million to around £1 billion. She advises several schemes in the not-for-profit sector, including two schools and a co-operative society, as well as schemes sponsored by public and private limited companies.

Significant experience:

  • supporting trustees with scheme funding valuations, including negotiations with sponsors
  • providing advice on PPF levies, including mitigation options such as deficit reduction contributions and asset backed contributions
  • advising sponsors on accounting for pension schemes
  • providing governance and secretarial support 

Other expertise: 

Fiona enjoyed a three-month secondment to one of the UK’s largest pension schemes (around £55 billion), acting as a link between actuarial and administration operations.
