International Pensions Roundtable | London

08.00 - 10.00 | Barnett Waddingham, London

Join us at our forum to discuss the agreement reached between employers, unions and the government in June on the Dutch pension reforms.

Negotiations on some of the more detailed aspects of the new pension system continue and some commentators doubt whether the parties will be able to reach agreement in areas such as “conditional DB” (balancing pension increases against benefit cuts, reflecting the plan funding position) and the move to “digressive” DB pension accrual and flat rate DC pension plans. Nevertheless, the Dutch government is working towards completing negotiations and finalise the new system by the end of 2020 (or later), and is targeting implementation by beginning 2022. We therefore expect that once the new pension system is agreed, employers will need to move quickly to bring their pension arrangements in line with the requirements of the new system.

Martin Wouda, Consulting Actuary and Rajish Sagoenie, Principal & Managing Director at Milliman in the Netherlands, will be joining us to outline the key points of the agreement, what it will mean for company and industry-wide pension plans in the Netherlands, and the actions employers will likely need to take to make their pension arrangements compliant with the new pension system. Martin and Rajish will explain the new terminology (including “conditional DB” and “digressive accrual”), and consider how employees and plan members could be affected by the changes, as well as touching on the discussions around transitional and compensation arrangements, and the cost implications of the new system.

This roundtable will be covering current issues from the perspective of the employer and will be used as a forum for peer to peer discussions.
