Barnett Waddingham revamps its fiduciary management evaluation services

Our independent advisory services for fiduciary management is evolving, with a name change to FM Evaluate, and a new leader.

Previously called Fiduciary Management Oversight, the change to FM Evaluate recognises the evolution of the service to offer much more than simply oversight.

As one of the UK’s leading independent investment consultancies, our expertise in advising on investment strategy, performance and governance enables us to work with clients to evaluate:

  • the bespoke selection of fiduciary manager(s) for their pension scheme;
  • the investment performance and activity of their fiduciary manager;
  • the suitability of a fiduciary manager’s investment mandate; and
  • following its publication in June, how to respond to the requirements of the CMA’s Order.
"The service we deliver goes way beyond just oversight and draws from our expertise as one of the UK’s leading independent investment consultancies. Investment performance analytics is a key part of what we do, but it is our long track record in advising on strategy and trustee decision making which enables us to critically evaluate a client’s existing or potential fiduciary management arrangements. "
Peter Daniels

Our investment practice has been advising and helping clients choose and understand their fiduciary management arrangements since 2014, having taken the decision not to become fiduciary managers ourselves. The business remains committed to remaining an independent investment consultancy and is therefore perfectly positioned to help our clients get the best out of their fiduciary arrangement.

Peter Daniels has been appointed Head of FM Evaluate at Barnett Waddingham. Daniels, a senior investment consultant, has played a key role in developing the firm’s fiduciary management evaluation services. He is taking over the role from David Clare, Partner at Barnett Waddingham, who has established Barnett Waddingham as one of the UK’s leading independent advisers on fiduciary management.

David Clare, Partner at Barnett Waddingham, said: I am delighted to be handing over the reins to Peter at what is a pivotal time for the fiduciary management industry.  The requirements resulting from the CMA’s Order shine a spotlight on the value which independent, professional expertise can add for pension scheme trustees.  I am looking forward to continue to work with Peter and the FM Evaluate Team to help our clients navigate through this new phase of much improved industry standards.

Peter Daniels, Head of FM Evaluate at Barnett Waddingham, said: “I now head up one of the most experienced fiduciary management evaluation teams in the business.  I am excited to build on the value-added philosophy and excellent reputation which David and I, together with the team, have established over the last 5 years.

“The service we deliver goes way beyond just oversight and draws from our expertise as one of the UK’s leading independent investment consultancies.  Investment performance analytics is a key part of what we do, but it is our long track record in advising on strategy and trustee decision making which enables us to critically evaluate a client’s existing or potential fiduciary management arrangements.  Through FM Evaluate, trustees and sponsors can ensure that their pension scheme’s investments are being implemented in the most effective and cost-effective way.”
