Roy is a retired Chartered Accountant. He spent his career at Grant Thornton UK LLP where he became a partner in 1989.
He was involved in various client service and management roles including training, corporate finance, investigations and corporate recovery. Latterly, he focussed mainly on Quality and Professional Standards. He was the firm’s Money Laundering Reporting Officer and held the oversight controlled function for the firm’s Investment Business compliance department, both roles being regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Roy gained considerable international risk management experience with Grant Thornton International Ltd as the executive director responsible for risk management and training for Advisory Services globally. He created an award-winning risk management regime to set global standards and to ensure member firms only undertook advisory work they were authorised to do. He represented Advisory Services internationally and the UK member firm on the Global Enterprise Risk Committee.
Roy’s other panel and committee experience included being Chairman and Honorary lifetime member of the Non-Administrative Receivers Association and Chairman of the Managing Partners Forum risk management panel.
Additionally, his membership of professional groups such as the ICAEW’s Insolvency Licensing Committee and Anti Money Laundering/Financial Crime panel involved liaison with regulators and law enforcement agencies. He was, thus, involved in the development of policy in these areas.
