John Harrison FIA

John acts as Scheme Actuary to a range of pension schemes, and provides  advice to trustees and companies on a range of complex pensions issues.

The regular three-yearly actuarial valuation remains a focus and continues to bring challenges. He also helps schemes to review their investment strategy, and to consider appropriate risk reduction and mitigation measures. John has particular expertise in the area of US accounting standards for pensions and how they apply to UK subsidiaries.

John also advises the Pension Fund Committee of a fund that participates in the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Faced with an increasing governance burden, clients appreciate John’s pragmatic approach and ability to offer clear and straightforward advice across a wide spectrum.

Significant experience:

  • advice to clients with combined liabilities of over £1 billion
  • advice on funding strategy to schemes closed to new accrual
  • helped clients consider the merits of an asset-backed contribution structure in place of a more traditional recovery plan
