Bringing clarity to the complex

Two major forces are at play in the workplace savings space.  First, the announcement in the Budget of 'Pension Freedom', (or should I just say, by pure definition, the Budget that saw the death of pensions).  Second, the DC code.

Combined, they leave both employers/trustees and employees scrabbling for information: one, to demonstrate how well they understand the nature of their workforce; the other to understand what freedom may mean to them, rather than cashing out and going on that round the world trip.

But help is at hand to bring Clarity to the complex for these stakeholders.

It has been a busy few months for our Workplace Health and Wealth team but we are excited that the launch of GEM is getting closer.  We are currently in testing mode and will be ready for our planned launch in March.

"By examining cohorts and slicing data in a variety of ways, GEM provides a detailed breakdown of membership of their defined contribution (DC) pension. This in turn can help our Investment team when looking at investment strategies, and also provide insight into the work of our engagement team."

GEM (Governance, Engagement Monitoring) is our analytical tool, which will help our clients (corporate or trustees) to get to grips with their workforce.  It looks at how things stand now and projects how things will look five to ten years in the future.  By examining cohorts and slicing data in a variety of ways, GEM provides a detailed breakdown of membership of their defined contribution (DC) pension.  This in turn can help our Investment team when looking at investment strategies, and also provide insight into the work of our engagement team.

But how do we empower DC members to help themselves?

Introducing…Me2.  The results of our ‘Generation why?’ survey show that other savings needs and clearing debt rate higher than pensions, and makes it quite clear that we need to educate the members about the revolution they face in the new post-April world.

Me2 is our employee-facing online platform, delivering key messages around saving for later life and focusing on the new retirement options.  In line with GEM, Me2 delivers a user experience based on the membership cohort the employee is in, and takes them through education pieces and interactive tools relevant to their life stage.  This service will be ready for the April changes and more details will be available soon as we work with a small selection of clients to ensure Me2 delivers what is vitally needed by employees.
