Barnett Waddingham comments on The Pensions Regulator’s six principles.

Commenting on the six principles The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has outlined for good design and governance of workplace DC pension provision, Mark Futcher, partner at Barnett Waddingham, said:

“The principles outlined by The Pensions Regulator follows its six key elements to produce good member outcomes.  Both of these are evidence that TPR is actively focusing on DC pension provision with its growing importance in the run up to Automatic Enrolment.

“It is good to see this framework which can apply to all DC and not just trust based schemes.  However, it is important to appreciate that some employers will not wish to spend resource on governing their pension arrangements and in this case the responsibility will rest with the individual members.  There is still a lot of negativity and misunderstanding of pensions in the UK and we hope that the Government will address this in the run up to Automatic Enrolment.”
