Adrian was elected Chairman of IACA at their recent conference in Sydney with effect from 3rd November 2004, and takes over from Sydney-based consulting actuary Brent Walker. The new vice-chairman is Mike Toothman of the United States.

IACA is the consulting section of the International Actuarial Association (IAA), and was founded forty years ago to bring together consultants from around the world. IACA's objectives include developing the role and enhance the reputation and recognition of the actuarial profession and individual actuaries throughout the world; to promote high standards of professionalism among actuarial associations and among consulting actuaries, and to advance the body of knowledge of actuarial science and its applications. As globalization spreads to all aspects of life, actuaries no less than any other profession, need to keep in touch with colleagues from around the world, and IACA helps them to do this. IACA's members are drawn from over thirty countries.

Adrian said: "It is a great honour to be elected chairman of IACA, but I also take on the role at a very challenging time. The huge changes that are taking place in both the actuarial profession require IACA members to be alert to the modern professional challenges. IACA offers an international forum to consider issues such as international accounting standards, conflicts and professional risk management, and, topically, what the UK Morris Review will mean for actuaries throughout the world".

Membership of IACA is open to all actuaries who are members of the International Actuarial Association, which includes all Fellows of the Faculty or the Institute of Actuaries. During 2005 IACA will be holding three meetings for members. These will be at Gatwick, London on February 10th, at Bali in September and in Ashville North Carolina in October.

All of Adrian's colleagues at Barnett Waddingham LLP extend their congratulations to the new Chairman and wish him every success.
