Historic Current Pensions Issues Seminars

Barnett Waddingham LLP was pleased to announce the extension of its 2004/5 current pensions issues seminar programme.

2004 was the fifth year Barnett Waddingham had run a series of free seminars on current pension topics for its clients and friends. Details of the main programme that took place in 2004/5 can be found by following this link.

Due to the abundant nature of topics and increased public interest we added an extra seminar in response.

This seminar was held in Newcastle at the Vermont Hotel, Castle Garth on Wednesday 17th November at 9.30am, with breakfast available beforehand from 8.45am. The seminar lasted for about one and a half hours and qualified for PMI CPD accreditation.

Summary of the new seminar:

Closed Schemes - Financing & Investment Issues and the Pensions Act 2004.
A large number of final salary pension schemes were closed to new entrants. This gave rise to particular issues affecting funding and investment strategies for these schemes. Would the last pensioner to leave the scheme please turn out the lights!

The Pensions Act 2004 would include proposals for a Pension Protection Fund, a new funding standard, a tougher pensions regulator, changes to statutory LPI pension increases, new member trustee requirements and a requirement for pension scheme trustees to be knowledgeable. What exactly did all of this mean for employers and trustees?
