Amersham office retain cricket trophy in style

Vidhya Sivagurunathan reports back from the annual Barnett Waddingham Amersham vs London cricket match.

Escaping the heat of last year's match with conditions considerably milder, this year's annual Amersham vs London cricket match at Seer Green was the perfect day out.

Dan Robinson hits out against the fierce London attack

Amersham started, winning the toss and opting to field first. London came in to bat in fighting form but after strong fielding from Amersham, were forced into a quick finish after only 71 runs, being bowled out after 16 overs. Andrew Webber was the top wicket taker, taking a total of 3 wickets for the Amersham side.

After tea, Amersham came in to bat and got off to what seemed an apprehensive start, with batters getting caught and bowled out one by one. It was only once Sam Meldrum took to the pitch that the tide began to turn for the side. He remained on the pitch achieving 25 runs before being called off after 10 overs. Paul Latimer also put up a superb performance scoring 18 runs, restoring our hope and putting Amersham back on track towards winning the match. London's bowling was strong and swift but in the end it proved no match for the Amersham team who took the lead after 15 overs, winning the match with a fine 74 runs.

Man of the match was won by Sam Meldrum after his solid fielding and top score. A firm well-done all round.

Our quick finish meant we had time for an impromptu cricket game of mixed teams. Batters played for the entirety of their over. If they were bowled out, they had 5 runs deducted from their score. Following on from his great performance in the main event, Sam Meldrum took to the pitch full of promise, but was out twice leaving him with -10 runs, but still managed to get back into the positives.

James Harrington led the competition from the word "go" with a net score of +10. Will Bennett beat him at the very last minute, scoring +11. Overall, London won this competition with their players scoring a total of 41, compared with Amersham's 24.
