New Master of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries

Barnett Waddingham's senior partner Huw Wynne-Griffith has been installed as Master of the actuaries' livery company.

In July 2003 Barnett Waddingham's senior partner Huw Wynne-Griffith was installed as Master of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries, the actuaries' livery company which was founded in 1979.

The Company has three main objectives. First, it seeks to extend recognition of the actuarial profession and the work actuaries carry out within the City and beyond, to support the work of the Institute of Actuaries in England and Wales and the Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland, and also to promote the work of actuaries in fields outside the traditional ones of pensions and life assurance. Its second objective is to support the educational work of the Institute and Faculty by awarding bursaries to students following actuarial courses at various universities in the UK. Finally, the Company also has its own charitable trust, which was set up in 1980; the Trustees in particular seek charities both within the City and beyond for whom relatively small donations make a big difference.

To mark the occasion, Huw's partners in the firm presented him with a gift of two engraved antique silver salt trenchers dating from the 1935 silver jubilee of George V's accession to the throne. The pictures on the right show Adrian Waddingham presenting Huw with his gift in front of the other partners and staff from the London office.

Huw has also celebrated his 30th anniversary as an actuary in recent weeks.
