Barnett Waddingham expands its SSAS business

Barnett Waddingham are pleased to announce that we have reached a preliminary agreement with Mercer Human Resource Consulting to take over their UK Small Self-Administered Scheme (SSAS) business. Mercers currently advise about 800SSASs, and so this would almost double Barnett Waddingham's growing SSAS portfolio.

The majority of Mercer's SSAS staff along with their Pensioneer Trustee company will transfer to Barnett Waddingham. This will ensure minimal disruption to the clients concerned, with the added benefit of now having the backing of an organization which is fully committed to the SSAS market-place The Mercer's Windsor team will transfer to Barnett Waddingham's Amersham office. Louise Witts, a partner currently based in Barnett Waddingham's Leeds office, will head a new Liverpool office, with the existing 12 Mercer's Liverpool staff moving across. A local actuary - Bob Chadwick, will also join that office.

Adrian Waddingham, the partner who heads the Barnett Waddingham SSAS practice said: "We are delighted with this opportunity to expand our SSAS client base. The combined teams will be a major force in this pensions market".

Bruce Rigby, Worldwide Partner and Head of Retirement Practice at Mercer said:"The transfer will be as seamless as possible, and our clients can be reassured that, in future, they will be served by the leading provider in this very specialist market."

This is a very exciting opportunity for Barnett Waddingham to expand our SSAS business and to open a brand new office in a part of the country where we are not already physically represented. The new office will not just provide SSAS services, but in due course will also offer the full range of actuarial consultancy and pensions administration services which we offer to our corporate clients in other parts of the country.
