On the Cheap

After seven years in Bread Street, Barnett Waddingham's London office is on the move - just around the corner into Cheapside (or "the Cheap", as it seems to be called in some mediaeval sources).

Bow Bells House is about to undergo fundamental redevelopment (in other words, be knocked down), and so the current views of the fortress-like Bank Buildings (now known as New Change Court) and St Mary-le-Bow church will be replaced by a panoramic sweep along Cheapside with the cupola of St Paul's visible from some windows and (for the accounts department, at least) a view over St Vedast-alias-Foster church.

Back in London office's previous home of Tufton Street, the office was situated above a clerical outfitters. At Bow Bells House it was a Japanese restaurant and a gentleman's outfitters. This time it will be a ladies' outfitters, opticians, jewellers, health food shop and trendy apothecary (sic), which we predict will continue the trend of increasing BW trade with our fellow tenants (based on the general assumption that, dog-collars not having been in evidence on dress-down Fridays, this expenditure started from a level close to nil).

The London office will be in its new location from 25 March onwards, and the new address will be: Cheapside House, 138 Cheapside, London EC2V 6BW, and the new telephone number 020 7776 2200 (fax 020 7776 3800).
