Exam successes - June 2001
The latest round of actuarial examination results (in June 2001) provided several reasons for celebration.
The greatest excitement came in the London office, where two qualifications as Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries meant twice the party.
John Jeffery, from the London Life team, discovered that he had qualified after consulting the Internet at midnight (when the Institute publishes its results), and demonstrated the clear visionary qualities required of the actuary by having some champagne in the fridge for such an eventuality.
Adam Walker, from the London Pensions team, went down the traditional route by waiting for the first edition of The Times, with its list of qualifiers, in a hostelry within visual range of the Charing Cross newspaper sellers. After the paper finally arrived (in Leicester Square, followed by more champagne), the party continued after a trip to an Internet cafe revealed that others among the revellers also had exam passes to celebrate.
Paul Hamilton in the Amersham office, another Internet results reader, broke with tradition by driving into the office (and home again!) on results day. Early morning champagne in the office was followed by celebrations well into the evening at the Boot & Slipper.
Several other candidates passed a number of examinations, and more qualifications are anticipated in December. Congratulations to all those passing!
