Exam successes - December 2000

December started with a bang in the Amersham and Leeds offices where Andrew Twells and John Harrison completed the examinations to become Fellows of the Institute of Actuaries.

Andrew (who completed the examinations in double-quick time) learned of his success at the airport on a Friday morning at 6am after returning from a holiday in the USA and managing to get a particularly unpleasant case of 'flu through UK customs. He nevertheless duly arrived in the office to help his colleagues through some early morning celebrations, before being sent home to his sickbed shortly after lunch. At time of going to press, he was still there. (Editor's note: the examinations of the actuarial profession do not have the same effect on all candidates.)

John found out that he had qualified late on Thursday night and was unable to sleep due to the sheer excitement of having just become an actuary. Clearly overcome by exhaustion, he actually did some work on the Friday morning, but was then forcibly removed to celebrate.

Both are now just a professionalism course and a few formalities away from putting "FIA" after their names.

Congratulations too to Paul Houghton in Amersham and Edward Spencer in Leeds who have obtained their Diplomas in Actuarial Techniques after passing the early examinations on the syllabus.
