Barnett Waddingham Netball Club
The new Barnett Waddingham-sponsored Netball Club, newly entered into the sixth division of the the Gloucestershire Netball League, are proving to be pace-setters with a strong early-season showing.
The first match against Stroud Ladies was played in a thunderstorm but this had no effect on the shooting abilities of Debbie Matravers and Julie Bassett. BWNC managed to build up a substantial lead over Stroud Ladies and won the match 38-19.
The second match took BWNC out to Minchinhampton to play Ultra Violets, who following an extremely close match just managed to keep a couple of goals ahead to edge BWNC out 30-27.
The third match of the season was against Newnham B and despite the previous week's defeat, BWNC were full of confidence and led from the start. The second quarter was dominated by Newnham B but a third-quarter BWNC revival saw them run out winners 33-15, with Jo Morley was named as player of the match for the second time.
In the next match, the first half was dominated by BWNC who led 19-8 at half-time, but Revivers (living up to their name) came back hard for the second half before succumbing 29-19. Player of the match went to Lesley Pacey.
