Longevity Consulting

Members of our Longevity Consulting Practice have an unrivalled depth of knowledge and experience in analysing and modelling mortality and longevity risk.  This underpins the actuarial and consultancy services Barnett Waddingham can provide to the holders, buyers and sellers of longevity risk.

We can apply a variety of tools and approaches to experience analyses and can assist in data validation. We adopt a pragmatic approach in order to make optimal use of the data available. The best results can often be obtained by combining experience analysis with mortality risk estimates derived from consideration of the socio-economic, geographic and lifestyle profile of the group of lives under consideration.

Our Longevity Consulting team has considerable knowledge and experience built up in analysing past mortality change and modelling future mortality improvements using a variety of techniques, ranging from formal mathematical models to more subjective approaches informed by expert opinion, and from top-down ‘aggregate’ models to by-cause or by-driver ‘building block’ approaches.

Assignments have been undertaken for insurance companies, reinsurance companies, investment banks and pension schemes. Our advice has covered best estimate current and projected mortality, as well as estimating parameter uncertainty, and stress testing to establish the possible range of results for use in pricing, reserving and capital management.

Our services include:

  • Experience analyses and data validation
