Expert Witness and Forensic Actuarial Services
The Barnett Waddingham Insurance Consulting Practice provides actuarial services to the life, health and general insurance markets. Members of our team have considerable experience in producing expert reports for regulators, the courts and others who seek actuarial opinions with regard to insurance related matters.
Assignments undertaken have ranged from small cases relating to particular individuals to large high-profile cases about the workings of substantial organisations and dealing with major issues. We have been involved in large investigations and have experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams with barristers and firms of lawyers and accountants.
As part of this work we have developed extensive expertise in the forensic analysis of previous actuarial advice. This includes the methods and techniques required to analyse large amounts of information and then present the results in digestible form.
Besides acting directly for lawyers we have also acted for professional bodies, regulators and Government departments.
Recent assignments: - Principal actuarial adviser to the Parliamentary Ombudsman regarding the regulation of Equitable Life
- Principal actuarial adviser to the Joint Disciplinary Scheme of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales regarding Ernst & Young’s audits of Equitable Life
- Independent Expert on the Part VII transfer of business from Nationwide Life to Legal and General Assurance Society
- Expert report on the quality of actuarial advice provided by a third party to a major insurance company and on related matters of negligence and liability
- Advising a group of banks on the implications for their clients of a restructuring of unit-linked funds by an insurance company
