Garvins to join Barnett Waddingham

Barnett Waddingham, is delighted to announce the acquisition of Garvins, a specialist firm of consulting actuaries with 50 employees.  The combined group will be the largest independent firm of actuaries in the UK.

Garvins, which was founded in 1988 by Robert Garvin, provides actuarial and investment consultancy services to over 100 defined benefit pension schemes with fund sizes up to £200 million.

T
ogether Barnett Waddingham and Garvins can now count over 60 actuaries amongst 400 partners and staff.  The merger of the two firms will bolster the group’s client base, which now stands at over 4,000 including pension schemes with fund sizes in excess of £2 billion.  It will also strengthen the group’s reach by adding a seventh office in Birmingham, supplementing the existing six UK offices in Amersham, Cheltenham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool and London.

This is the first acquisition for Barnett Waddingham since former Friends Provident Chief Executive Keith Satchell became Chairman of Barnett Waddingham in September last year.

Adrian Waddingham, Senior Partner at Barnett Waddingham, commented:

“We welcome Garvins to Barnett Waddingham; Garvins is a well-established Birmingham firm with an excellent reputation.  We are thrilled with the merger, especially given our shared culture, ethos and style.  I take this opportunity to welcome the employees of Garvins to the Barnett Waddingham team.”

Craig Stansfield, Garvins, who will be joining the Management Board of Barnett Waddingham, added:

“Both culturally and geographically Barnett Waddingham and Garvins are an excellent fit.  Joining Barnett Waddingham will allow our existing and future clients to benefit from a broader range of services and our staff from a wider range of opportunities.  We are looking forward to being part of the largest independent actuarial consultancy in the UK.  It will be exciting.”
