Nick Salter FIA ASA

Nick Salter qualified as an actuary after completing the examinations in 1984 having graduated from Cambridge University with an Economics degree in 1978. A degree in Economics is unusual for an actuary and gives Nick a wider perspective than many actuaries.

Nick is a founding partner of Barnett Waddingham, joining in 1989. He is based at our Amersham office. Throughout his actuarial career, Nick has specialised in advising companies and trustees operating occupational pension schemes; both final salary schemes and money purchase schemes. Nick has extensive experience in pension scheme matters and has responsibility for a portfolio of large and medium sized domestic and multinational companies and trustees. He also acts as an expert in litigation cases.

Nick sits on the firm's Management Board and chairs the Risk Management Committee. Nick is responsible for the North American liaison through NORACS. He is a member of Council of the Institute of Actuaries and sits on the UK Profession's Member Support Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Court of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries. Nick speaks regularly at professional meetings as well as trustee training courses both internal and external.

The majority of Nick’s work is on his Scheme Actuary appointments but he also advises a number of plan sponsors (but not the sponsors of his trustee clients).

Away from work, Nick is married with a daughter, son, two dogs and a cat. He tries to keep fit through his cycling, skiing and tennis and enjoys watching most sports but especially cricket and rugby.
