Finlay Souter MPMI, MCIPP

Finlay was educated in Aberdeen and initially worked in Retail Banking when he left school back in 1984.

In 2007, Finlay joined Barnett Waddingham as a Public Sector Pensions Consultant, bringing to us his considerable experience in public sector schemes; communication with members of the schemes; officers; employers; and Councillors. Finlay is our member representative of the Local Government Employers Pensions Technical Group and is often requested to speak at employer seminars and conferences dealing with public sector pension issues.

In addition to his LGPS experience, Finlay is a recognised expert dealing with the Police and Fire Authority Pension Schemes, where he was the chair of the Heywood’s Local Authority Users Group for Police and Fire Schemes.

Finlay moved into Public Sector Pensions when he joined Aberdeen City Council’s Pension Fund team in 1991. Since joining them as a pension officer he qualified as a PMI (QPA) administrator and completed a Diploma in Local Government Pension Management with the Chartered Institute of Payroll and Pension Professionals, where he now provides pension tuition to LGPS Students throughout the UK.

At Aberdeen he managed the 3 pension benefit teams that administered the Council’s Pension Fund and helped them win the Professional Pensions Award of Public Sector Scheme of the Year.

Finlay is married with 2 children, aged 4 and 5, so any hopes of improving his golf handicap will have to go on hold for a few more years to come.
