Dave Grimshaw FIA
Dave graduated in Economics at Cambridge University in 1980 and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1988.
Dave joined Barnett Waddingham in 2005 and works in the Insurance Consulting team in our London office where he specialises in the fields of life and health protection and reinsurance.
Dave commenced work as an actuarial trainee with Liverpool Victoria. Following short spells at Confederation Life and UK Provident, he joined M&G Reinsurance in 1986. Whilst there he qualified as an actuary and co-authored the prize-winning paper 'Dread Disease Cover - An Actuarial Perspective', a ground-breaking review of the newly emerging cover now known as Critical Illness. Dave is well known in the UK life industry from his marketing role at M&G and subsequently Swiss Re. In 2001 Dave joined Swiss Life where he was responsible for individual protection business then, following their closure to new business, AXA Sun Life early in 2004.
Dave has maintained a keen interest in Critical Illness throughout its development and also co-authored 'A Critical Review', presented to the Staple Inn Actuarial Society in 2000. Dave was a member of the ABI Critical Illness Working Party from 2000 to 2006 and chaired the CMI Critical Illness Committee from its inception in 1995 until 2005. Dave has also spoken at numerous seminars on Critical Illness, in North America, Australia and New Zealand as well as the UK.
He is currently Secretary of the CMI and Secretary of the CMI Critical Illness Committee.
