Pensions Charter Seminar
Don’t play with our Pensions
Pensions have been treated as a UK political football for far too long.
Not just a fitting comparison in a World Cup year, but an area of legislation that needs to be tackled urgently. In the run-up to what is promising to be one of the closest-run elections of recent years, pensions are raising their profile and are fast becoming a vote-decider.
What this country lacks is sustainable, long term pension policies designed to meet the needs of future generations without overburdening employers. Just look at the continuing misery being faced by employers and defined benefit scheme sponsors, and the increased pressure being felt by the PPF.
Looking forward, the plans are just as bleak. The Government is effectively outsourcing State pension provision via auto-enrolment, which will place a huge administrative burden and hence cost on industry.
We need change, and you can be part of shaping this change.
As we edge closer to the election, the utter confusion with our pensions is plain to see, with vague mumblings about scrapping forced annuities at age 75, abolishing the default retirement age and capping public sector pensions. It is a political minefield.
What can we do about it? Make the voice of the pensions industry shout as loud as some of the more traditional vote-winning policies. Barnett Waddingham is pleased to announce a series of seminars to give you the chance to make your pensions voice heard.
Help to decide the Pensions Charter, 2010
Our special seminars will be set against a backdrop of a hung parliament being the result of the forthcoming election, with the government needing the support of business to survive.
A meeting has been called with the pension spokespeople (Barnett Waddingham representatives to be confirmed) from the three main parties to show us their respective pensions policies. As a key part of our audience, you will have the opportunity to make your points on a sustainable pension policy for the future.
The best points from the audience will be collated and turned into a Pension Charter that will be sent to the new Government and released to the Press as an industry wish list.
The seminars will be chaired by pensions expert
Malcolm McLean
.
